To Upload Content/Files using SmartFTP

  1. Open SmartFTP. Under the File menu, click New Remote Browser.

  2. Type in your domain name as Host. Also type in the FTP Username and Password. Make sure the Port is set to 21. Click OK to connect to the server.

    Uploading content is allowed only through FTPS on Port 21. Hence, you need to select the FTP over SSL (Explicit) option from the Protocol drop-down menu.

  3. Once connected, you will be displayed a pane which lists all the files and folders under your website.

    Double-click the web folder to open it.

    Note

    Depending upon the Directory/Folder See details structure of the Web Hosting package, you would need to upload your files to the relevant folder.

  4. Under the File menu, click New Local Browser. This will open another pane listing your local files and folders.

  5. Open the directory containing the files for your website.

  6. Select the files to upload and click Upload button to upload the files onto the web server.

To Enable Active/Passive Mode FTP

Different modes of data connection can be used during FTP. See details

There are 2 ways in which the data connection mode can be modified.

Global Settings

  1. Under Tools menu, click Settings.

  2. Under the Connection dialog, change the Mode in the Data Connection section from Passive Mode (PASV) to Active Mode (PORT) or vice versa. Click OK to save the changes.

This change will affect all the sites for whom the data connection mode was set by default.

Favorite Item Setting

  1. Under the Favorites menu, click Edit Favorites.

  2. Select the site under Quick Connect folder, right-click and then click Properties.

  3. Go to the Connection dialog and change the Mode in the Data Connection section from Passive Mode (PASV) to Active Mode (PORT) or vice versa. Then, click OK.

The change is saved for future FTP sessions of this site.
